“Today’s full approval of the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) – the result of months of work, robust data assessment and a thorough and comprehensive review process that has already protected over one hundred million Americans from serious complications from COVID-19 – is a big step forward in the global effort to end this pandemic. Vaccines to prevent COVID-19 are effective; we know that for months, healthcare professionals were among the first to get vaccinated and advocated for our patients to get vaccinated to save lives. But today’s news marks a critical moment for people who feared getting vaccinated due to the vaccines being cleared for emergency use. With millions of data points on the safety and effectiveness of the vaccine over nearly nine months of vaccination, every “i” is dotted and every “t” is crossed out. This vaccine is safe, it prevents severe cases of COVID-19, hospitalizations and deaths, and it will save your life.
“According to a recent survey, 30% of unvaccinated people said they wait until vaccines are fully approved before getting vaccinated. We are there now; this vaccine is fully approved. If the uncertainty is holding you back, now is the time to act. And if you still have questions about vaccines or COVID-19, please consult your healthcare professional.
“Science, data and extensive research have given us the tools to beat COVID-19. With the delta variant soaring, there has never been a better time to get vaccinated.
“The FDA approval is also expected to bolster efforts in the health care arena to achieve high levels of immunization.”
