Two-year-old toddler in critical condition after freak accident at birthday party
A two-year-old girl is in critical condition after being injured in what authorities called an “freak accident” in Gordonville, Texas on Sunday July 11.
Toddler Delilah Hunt was sitting near a four-wheeler and celebrating a birthday party with her family when an AC compressor plate from the truck blew up and hit her in the head.
The family was about to move the vehicle when the plate ejected and hit the toddler who was standing a few meters away.
Delilah’s aunt, Martina Steinbrook, spoke to News 12 reporters, saying the family are still in shock and trying to figure out what happened.
“A / C compressor plate… it went straight in,” Steinbrook said, pointing to his head.
“[I’m] hurt, not mad at anyone because it was a freak accident. ”
“We’re all in shock,” Steinbrook said.
Delilah was airlifted to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas with life-threatening injuries.
Tim Bilderback, a first responder at the scene, described the incident as a “freak accident”.
“It was a very sad ordeal, obviously. If she had been anywhere other than where she was sitting, the injury wouldn’t have been so bad. Nobody expects that to happen,” Bilderback said.
The toddler is still in critical condition. The family said doctors told them the little girl’s brain pressure from the injuries was in the danger zone.
“She was the smartest two-year-old girl and [the] the bravest; she loved the world, “said Tina Heineken, Delilah’s grandmother.” She has to come back to us.
The family opened a GoFundMe account to pay for Delilah’s medical bills.
“At the moment we are asking for all the help we can get to help Delilah,” said Steinbrook.
The family also asks people to pray for the good health of the little girl.
In a similar but unrelated freak accident, a 7-year-old boy died after a pillar of a portal fell on him on Thursday, July 8, while the child was in a local clinic to be vaccinated against the Covid-19.
The incident happened Thursday morning at the Mahoba District Auxiliary Nurse Midwife (ANM) Center in Kanpur, India.
Restless family members of the deceased child and a few other villagers staged a protest outside the medical center, demanding justice.
SDM Kulpahar Suthan Abdullah and CO Tej Bahadur Singh responded to the scene and soothed the boy’s family members.
